A problem for these phone makers is expectations. When a phone is touted as being worth almost $1,000 we expect an almost out of body experience with the thing. Everything needs to work flawlessly. Everything needs to look perfect according to our expectations, which sometimes are subjective. Everything needs to be super fast, super bright, super duper. So any little glitch in anything really destroys the whole image of the thing, even though it may be solvable and you may never have the problem again.
When a phone costs a lot the expectations are magnified out of proportion. If the thing hesitates for even an instant we think oh no I wasted my money. I could get this from a cheap phone. But the profit margin must be better on these high-end phones and they're willing to take those risks. After all who wants to just build budget phones, when you can get rich off of expensive phones.
