this phone after 1 month

 This phone has turned out to be quite reliable. It has had one more episode with the microphone not being available to take videos. But after ending the video and starting over the microphone worked fine. It isn't clear what triggers the bug or what the thing is unhappy about. But other than that it has really been stellar. For instance there is an app that will play the Bible out loud from start to finish. At the same time you can play music in the background. Now I've only done this one time all night long, but most of the other phones I've had will sometimes make it and sometimes not make it all night long. So for this one time it worked great. It played for about 8 hours. 

The camera is definitely amazing for a phone. You can't take fantastic telephoto shots with it, but you can take some pretty amazing night shots and just normal point and shoot pictures look fantastic. And surprisingly it does pretty good with macro shots. 

All the apps I generally use are working great. 

And there are so many things that can go wrong with the phone we tend to take them for granted when all those things go right. The screen, the speakers, the incredible myriad of electronics packed behind the screen. The battery, the Bluetooth connectivity. The physical controls on the side of the phone all work great, and the unlocking fingerprint sensor on the back works flawlessly. Also it's the best phone I've ever had out in the sun, though not perfect. 

The phone claims to be somewhat water resistant, but I'm pretty sure if it said it was totally waterproof to 100 ft deep I still wouldn't even splash one little drip of water on it. But that would probably be worth testing if I wasn't depending on it as my primary phone.

 Oh, it also will make and receive phone calls. The microphone and speakers work fine for that.

pixel 2 xl , 3xl, 4xl

 I currently own a pixel 2 XL. At this point it is a 5-year-old design. It still gets pretty good reviews on the internals even for being so old. Apparently some of the progress has kind of slowed down. Processor improvements and even camera improvements are minimal. It took excellent pictures 5 years ago and it still takes excellent pictures today. Having said that the pixel 3 and pixel 4 are starting to come down in price quite a bit. So let's talk about that. The pixel 3 has some improvements but nothing major. The big thing that everybody points out between the pixel 3 and the pixel 2 is the screen. The pixel 2 screen is somewhat faded looking compared to the typical phone. It's still very sharp the colors are still in color and it works just fine, but really it doesn't look like something that used to cost $950. Still that's what they sold it for. pixel 2 XL camera focus

  For almost a year the camera focus has been irritating at times. Especially when taking close up pictures. The camera would focus on stuff that was further away because it took up more of the field of view. Then finally this morning the thought occurred, why not click on what you want in focus and see what happens. And here are the results.   Notice June 13 is out of focus.   By clicking on 13 the focus automatically changes and then take the picture.   I'm hopeful that Jesus will figure out some way to get those Google guys into heaven.    Here is an example of a fantastic picture ruined by focus problems.    Armed with the new knowledge of resetting the focus more fantastic pictures can be produced.
