I worked at one company for 18 years. Throughout that period they gradually changed their rating system. But it generally lumped people into one of five categories. Does not meet Meets most Meets company standards Exceeds expectations Far exceeds For years I thought that at some point I would get the highest rating. But it never happened. I think the best I ever got was "meets standards". Many years I got "meets most". This rating means, we're not going to fire you this week, but if we come up with a good reason we might. Why would you keep beating your head against that wall for 18 years? Well supposedly I had a fairly high IQ , but unfortunately that doesn't keep you from being stupid .
