bet you can't do this

Action required !  Get the tecarta Bible on your phone. It has a feature that will read the Bible out loud on your phone. There's a little blue triangle at the bottom of the app. Put it on your nightstand when you go to bed and let it read the Bible to you all night long.

happy fall ya'll 🍂🍁

Google weaseling in

For years Google has been working to make things more convenient in the way that you communicate. On my last phone they started helping me filter spam phone calls. It was sort of like a dynamic answering machine. Where my phone would answer, but ask the person who they were and then I could see it on the screen. This must not have worked very well, because almost everyone just hung up. So now they've gone with a different approach that seems much worse. Companies who are going to try to call you have to use Google as a third party clearing service. In other words you know they're going to call and so you and the company somehow schedule an acceptable call window or something with Google. It basically puts Google in the middle of your phone calls. Of course Google goes on about how private it is and how they never see any of your information. But this is all just based on whatever rules they want to make up at the moment. Frankly I think it's better to just let all of the c...

how phones are making things worse

It would seem there's no downside to the smartphones. In many situations they allow us to communicate almost instantaneously in situations that used to take hours or days. I remember the first time this hit me. A small plane crashed in the foothills, but within range of some cell towers. The crash victims were able to simply make a call and say we've crashed and here's where we are. They didn't have to send out a big search and rescue party trying to figure out where the plane was or looking for the little black box or looking for the emergency beacon or anything else, they just had to send out six or seven people to retrieve them right where they were. This all sounds wonderful. as the saying goes, what could possibly go wrong. But what I've noticed since then is that we become heavily dependent on them. And quite often in dangerous situations where you're away from populated area or even just on some remote highways or small towns where you can't get a si...

phone helps save low battery

It isn't clear exactly what all got turned off, but last night the phone got below 10% battery. When I got up in the morning it was at 4% battery, because it wasn't plugged in all night. But still I was able to use it briefly before getting the charger out and plugging it in. When it got above 10%, the phone informed me that it was turning all the features back on. But I hadn't even missed any of the features that were turned off so it isn't clear what wasn't working when the battery was low. Pretty impressive battery management.

the downfall of America

 Look at this !!!

back in college

Back in college someone warned me one thing you don't want to see is women without any clothes on. Obviously what this guy meant was women over the age of 30 that haven't stayed in shape. Of course we all want to see women that are 25 years old without their clothes on. Unless they have let things go. And if you're a woman that wants to see other women with their clothes off, get help.

googol

 This is what Google was trying to accomplish. Googol  A googol is the large number 10 100 . In decimal notation, it is written as the digit 1 followed by one hundred zeroes :  10,000,000, 000, 000, 000, 000, 000, 000, 000, 000, 000, 000, 000, 000, 000, 000, 000, 000, 000, 000, 000, 000, 000, 000, 000, 000, 000, 000, 000, 000, 000, 000, 000.

☹️ renewed or just rude

Occasionally somebody gets a renewed phone that basically looks brand new. It works for 2 or 3 years with no problems. This to me is a success. But what do most people get? They get a phone that doesn't look good, it certainly doesn't look new, and sometimes it doesn't even work right. The battery goes dead, there's visible scratches on the screen, and a multitude of other problems. For instance some people get it in a box with a bunch of stuff that doesn't even work with that phone. Like the charger doesn't work, or the earbuds don't work on that phone. It's kind of weird. Still, my perception is if you return the phone you will get your money back. Amazon seems to have put the fear of God in people that are selling this junk.

👙renewed or just nude

who really wants a renewed phone. My perception is that they don't replace the battery. The reason is many of them say the battery is guaranteed to still have 80% of its life. Okay folks that is not renewed. So what could they really do to renew it? Wipe it off? Put it back in a box? It's used. Used and abused. The screen is scratched. It's been dropped on the corner and has a dent. The back is all scratched up. The camera doesn't work quite right. What is renewed about that?

🍏 I'm sure

Most certainly  Apple and iPhone does a great job of everything, and probably more, that Google Android does. Still today Android and Google maps really proved their metal. I was able to travel easily across several different highways. find a whole bunch of places that would be great to spend the night, and find the liquor store I so desperately needed. Thank you Jesus for iPhone, for Apple, for blackberry, for Unix, for Windows, for all of this stuff that you brought together to bring about your perfect eternity.

this is happening

Matthew 24 12  And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold. 13  But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved. 14  And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come.

☎️ challenge for Elon Musk

Make   a smart phone with a million mile battery. Why stop with cars and rockets, revolutionize the phone industry!? Don't worry that much about the camera. Only advertising departments and reviewers care about phone cameras that take pictures like a $5000 real camera. If it does slightly better than a 1975 Polaroid, that's fine. It's all about a decent bright😎 screen and the 🔋 battery. Go boldly, go Elon.

all in how you look at it

The screen. When it first came out they said the screen had natural c o l o r s. It was sort of the "new cool". Natural colors. At first it almost seems retro, like from the sixties man. Four years later they call it " washed out " colors. Like faded jeans without the holes. The only way this is noticable is by comparing it to other screens. If this was all you had, it looks completely, well, natural.  The solution, of course, is to upgrade! You need a Pixel 4 XL ! a new pixel will fixel it. When the newer phone gets cheap enough, then get one

my next phone !

This phone has definitely gotten me jazzed about my next phone! So it seems possible that it could be the pixel 4 XL or the Samsung Galaxy s10e. Why these phones? Out of all the amazing phones that are out there. Well they both are reaching the end of their life cycle, at some point they won't be selling them new anymore. And so they finally started that steep descent in the price department. The reason the Samsung is so compelling is it has a 3 and 1/2 mm Jack and an SD card. Plus it has the all-important flat screen. And then it seems like they both are somewhat similar in the rest of their respects. They both have awesome Snapdragon processors they both have plenty of onboard memory and they both have four to six gig of RAM. They both have big enough screens. They're both running Android. The only real negative to the Samsung is its tiny little 3000 milliamp hour battery. But even so at around 200 bucks it would be irresistible today. Unfortunately it's still selling fo...

sound advice

For those of you starting off in life, when you do things that others don't liked they will try to stop you. At first this will sound unlikely, because there are 8 billion, 8,000,000,000, people on this planet and how will any of them even know you exist? Well, it has to do with your sphere of influence. If anyone sees you doing something they don't like, if they hear about you, or you are in the same or competing organizations, and in many other ways, they find out you exist. Especially in computers and software people are very territorial. For instance when Android came on Steve Jobs radar he said he would go thermonuclear. Instead he died of cancer. Unfortunately this fact keeps me from sharing some really cool information with you. Probably there are millions of people with very cool "secret" information that would benefit mankind, but because of the evil people that would ruin all the fun, they keep things secret. Do you see where I'm going with this? .

typo contest !

The first person to find the glaring error on this can's label will receive a $100 bill in the mail. I am the judge of what the error is, but if you find another one you still might win ! Do NOT put your address or phone # in the comments. Email me at  scratchwiththechickens@Gmail.Com

📸camera confusion

One approach to taking pictures is to shoot a series of several pictures and then delete all the ones you don't want. After doing that the camera became confused about what pictures were being deleted. It kept putting up a fuzzy picture that had already been deleted, and so when I repeatedly deleted that picture it simply deleted other pictures I wanted to keep.    $950? I think not. Still worth $160 though.

big box scanning app

One of the big box warehouse stores is pushing scan and go technology on your phone. You use your phone to scan products as you go through the store and then when you check out it automatically charges your card. There is one step you still have to do, which is stop at the door and have your cart checked. Frankly I don't mind going through self checkout because I generally don't buy a lot. And getting my phone all involved in the purchase process just seems like one more step towards the Antichrist. 👹👿😈💀

💀🏴‍☠️ liquid death

Ok, this is a ridiculous advertising approach, but they are living the dream.

💲💰 is it worth it ?

I would definitely buy this phone again for $160. But it's really hard for me to spend over $400 on a phone. Granted they're incredible computers. They're generally reliable; they generally all have the same stuff, meaning a phone, text, email, apps, a camera, microphone, and speakers, and of course that most critical of all components a battery. For $100 you get basically the same stuff on an below average phone that you get on a $1,500 phone. The screen on this phone has a very tiny defect, which makes me wonder if the reason these phones were on sale is they all have the same defect. A glass screen protector will not lie perfectly flat on the screen. But a plastic screen protector works just fine. So for $160 people probably aren't going to send it back. They will either put up with the glass screen protector that doesn't fit quite right or skip using a screen protector. Every screen needs a screen protector. Just put one on there. Somewhere between $200 to $250...

🔋battery didn't charge

At bedtime the phone was plugged in as usual, but this morning only had 13%. Normally it is full in the morning. After plugging it back in it is now at 15%. Hopefully that was a fluke or the wall charger wasn't quite plugged in.

viewing old photos 🤔🙁

About 40 GB of pictures and videos came over from my old phone. The more recent ones view and play instantly. But as older and older videos and photos are viewed they take longer and longer to load. They're all on this memory. they shouldn't be downloading from the cloud. The phone says they're taking up space, so why does it take five or six seconds for them to load? And they look pixelated for several seconds sometimes. With the Snapdragon 835 processor you expect instantaneous response from everything. And since all my apps for the camera are pure Android, you expect perfect optimization.

just in case

In the blog picture the Pixel2XL has a phone case. It is a great case. Here is my case for this case. It is a Spigen tough armor case 👍 . It is reasonably easy to put on and fits perfectly. The small kickstand works, but feels flimsy. It folds away nicely and blends in with the case. The side buttons work well, although they are fairly firm. After all it's tough. The back is thick and sturdy, but not cumbersome. The big design feature for me is the excellent ridge around the glass. It is just tall enough to have a screen protector in place and still be above the surface of the protector. This is a big design feature that many phone cases fall short on because the phone has a curved screen. The whole curved screen thing was a big boondoggle. The only reason I got this phone was it has a snapdragon 835 processor, 4 GIG of RAM and 128 GIG of memory, plus most of the other smart phone stuff, all brand new for $160. In 2021 most phones like this cost over $400. So I kind of sold out ...

why ?

When Google got into the browser business it made sense. They have a product that is the envy of their worst competitors, Google search . And the search product is completely dependent on those same cheating lying backstabbing competitors. It's enough to make you worry. But why get into the phone business? Only one company has a long standing reputation for making all the software and hardware themselves, Apple. Microsoft has tried, but generally fails. And even Apple customers use Google search, in fact everybody uses Google search. It feels liked Google has gone Apple on us. They want it all. All your business, all the money, all the markets, all of everything. Frankly they even sound like Apple. We are going to take away features because...WE don't want them. The strange paradox is that the more successful these guys become the more we the consumer will lose. We lose those lean hungry young companies that are desperate to win your business and throw in tons of cool feature...

pixel battery charging

The phone charges plenty fast for me. It seems to charge about 1% per minute. It may slow down as it approaches full, not sure. If it needs some juice at 5PM, then adding 20% will make it to bedtime. Plus the phone is usable while charging, so there's no down time. It doesn't have wireless charging, but that's ok.     It usually lasts all day without an extra charge.   .

a great Bible app

The Tecarta Bible app is great because it is an easy way to read the Bible when you are offline. It also will read the whole Bible to you, from Genesis to Revelation without stopping, if you want. See the little blue triangle at the bottom, below the arrow.

tips & tricks

There is some way to keep music playing with the phone locked. If you figure it out, comment below how you did it !! The world may not be ETERNALLY grateful, but I will appreciate it. .

plastic screen protector

This phone currently has a plastic screen protector. It is fabulous. Although I didn't get it applied perfectly straight and I didn't cut the plastic perfectly straight, it still does a fabulous job of protecting screen and allowing me to interact with the phone. Mission accomplished.     ..

thank you Jesus

Regardless of how things turn out, this phone has been a worthwhile journey. It has revealed some of my hypocritical faults, some of my fickle shallow emotions. Overall a great experience.  Thank you Jesus. .

daily grind

The battery shows 99% and it's 9:47AM. it's taken some pictures and played chess. Decent battery. The only complaint is the battery is non removable. In theory a phone fixit shop can replace the battery, May look into it some day.  Here's some pictures of oil running on wet pavement. Cool effect.

will this be the final phone ?

This most likely will not be the final phone for me. The battery alone will only last three or four years. Of course I may only last three or four years too. But even if they come out with a million mile battery for phones, and make one that somebody can actually put in this phone, I will probably buy another phone. In today's world the memory is a little bit lacking. It's fun to shoot a whole bunch of videos of stuff, and videos take up a bunch of memory, and currently I'm not storing it out in the cloud somewhere and then paying extra when it runs out. Hence SD cards. You can archive SD cards and stick them in your computer when you want to look at them. And then there's a question of technology, will the phone networks eventually move beyond 4G and LTE and simply lock you off the network till you get a newer phone? Probably. Those greedy bastards.

love-hate relationship

This phone does things very well, and 80% off didn't hurt. The speakers are great, phone calls sounds clear, it has GSM and CDMA frequencies. It was originally sold as a flagship phone, and has most of the creature comforts of 2017 phones.  Why exactly was it so cheap brand new ? Who knows. It is not flawless. It struggles mightily to know your location, and complains bitterly when you say no. "They" know where you are anyway, because you must be connected to cell towers to use it as a phone. But turning on "location" let's them hit you with a drone strike from outer space. 🎯 Why make it easier than necessary.  The microphone software has not been perfect. The screen glass is not perfectly flat.  It's missing a headphone jack. And frankly they pulled an iPhone by leaving off the SD card, and charging $100 more for the bigger phone. In 2021 the extra memory cost $20, which was necessary.

screen scratch complaints

There are numerous complaints on the internet about people scratching the screen without a screen protector. Well kind of like going to bed with people that you have no idea who they are you need to use protection. And since I have no idea how easily the screen will scratch the first thing I do is slap a screen protector on it. So this screen doesn't have any scratches, but getting the right screen protector on it has been a problem. I'm on the third screen protector which is plastic. The glass screen protectors won't completely lay flat on the screen. So it appears that the screen has a tiny flaw at the edges which leaves a small bubble along the edge. It did it on two different glass screen protectors. But the screen doesn't have any scratches on it and it has a decent plastic screen protector on it now with no bubbles.     .

would I buy this phone again ?

For the original asking price I would never buy this phone. I would never buy any phone for $950. But for 80% off for a brand new phone it was a good deal. Now if the microphone problem keeps happening the phone is a paperweight.  So far, the phone is faster than any phone I've ever had, the phone is brighter than any phone I've ever had, the phone is the same as every other phone I've ever had from Android as far as what I do with it. The camera is a great phone camera. It is not a digital SLR with some sort of incredible telephoto lens on it and then magically turning into some incredible macro camera by switching lenses. It is a great phone camera. Quite amazing actually.  There is a long list of standard expectations these days. The battery lasts sufficiently long, the camera works great, there's plenty of memory, and the fact that the phone works on gsm and CDMA networks was a big plus. And there's a much longer list than this of all of our sometimes hidden ...

general thoughts

A problem for these phone makers is expectations. When a phone is touted as being worth almost $1,000 we expect an almost out of body experience with the thing. Everything needs to work flawlessly. Everything needs to look perfect according to our expectations, which sometimes are subjective. Everything needs to be super fast, super bright, super duper. So any little glitch in anything really destroys the whole image of the thing, even though it may be solvable and you may never have the problem again.  When a phone costs a lot the expectations are magnified out of proportion. If the thing hesitates for even an instant we think oh no I wasted my money. I could get this from a cheap phone. But the profit margin must be better on these high-end phones and they're willing to take those risks. After all who wants to just build budget phones, when you can get rich off of expensive phones.     .

things that have gone well

Getting the phone set up has been easier than anytime in the past. It came with a cable to hook up to my old phone and then easily copied almost everything off the old phone including contacts. This made the process fairly painless and worked great. Then logging into my account and syncing other apps like Chrome went smoothly.  The phone was on Android 8. And had two version updates available, 10 and 11. Both updates went very smoothly. There was a couple of bug patches, but after they were installed it seemed like the phone worked the same as it did on Android 8. Before that there was some glitchy Little things about the way apps would display on the screen, mainly having to do with the minimized view. The version updates were amazingly simple.

after one week

There are a lot of complaints on the internet about the pixel 2 XL.  One complaint was that when you turn the phone to the side the screen looks blue. This is true, but I don't turn the phone to the side so it's a non-issue. if you turn your phone sideways 😜😅 to look at it, this phone may not be for you. There have been early complaints about screen burn in. This has not been a problem for me.  The colors look more natural, which is fine with me. Some people complain about the colors.  The screen is nice and bright but not super bright in full sun light. Still the brightness is better than any phone I've ever had.  There are also complaints about the microphone dying. I have had a microphone problem which currently has been fixed by rebooting the phone. If this problem persists it's really going to kill the whole deal. A phone with out a microphone isn't a phone.

problem - microphone in use by another app

This is a first-time problem for me on any phone. My guess is the threading mechanism internally thinks something else is using the microphone, while I'm trying to take a video. This causes the video to stop and the voice recording to stop. To find out what all has access to the microphone go to settings. The problem on Android 11 is in settings you can't see the microphone directly. In other words you have to search for the word microphone, and then the microphone settings come up. So then you can easily look at what has access to the microphone. Even after denying all the other apps access to the microphone the camera would still complain that the microphone is in use. Currently the problem was solved by rebooting the phone. Somewhat disappointing for a $950 phone, that cost much less at this point.     .

problem - curved screen

So the curved screen shouldn't be a problem. They make curved screen protectors. The problem is with this screen that the edges slightly bubble up at the edge maybe one 1000th of an inch. What this means is that the screen protectors expect the screen to be completely flat and then curve off at the edges. But the edges bend up just a tiny little bit before curving down. So currently the phone has a plastic screen protector on it which will flex just a little bit. Also the plastic screen protector could be cut with scissors to fit the screen better. For a $950 phone you just wouldn't expect that kind of an issue. But I didn't pay full price.     .
